Prices of popular cryptocurrencies fell sharply over the past 24 hours due to higher volatility witnessed in the virtual coin market.

Bitcoin, the world’s most popular cryptocurrency, was trading at $45,848.37 or 2.37 per cent lower than its price 24 hours ago at 4:30 pm. Bitcoin’s market capitalisation has dipped to $866 billion and the 24-hour trade volume stood at 812 million.

Ether, the native token on the Ethereum platform, also fell sharply by nearly 3 per cent. The market capitalisation of Ether fell to $447.77 billion and the 24-hour trade volume stood at $720.12 million.

The trends among smaller cryptocurrencies remained mixed, with some gaining slight momentum and others falling sharply.

Commenting on the cryptocurrency market momentum, Edul Patel CEO and Co-founder of Mudrex a Global Algorithm-based Crypto Investment Platform, said, “The past 24 hours remained a volatile session for the cryptocurrency market.”

“The two largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation, Bitcoin and Ether, suffered a minor profit booking. The rest of the altcoins remained highly volatile with some of the top alt coins such as Ripple, Terra showing mild gains,” he added.
